About
“That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”
– F. Scott Fitzgerald
Subtle Digressions is a fortnightly newsletter exploring ideas and stories in the form of polished essays and unpolished thoughts. In this newsletter, I write about books, ideas, literature, art, creative things, artists, history, and more.
Every other Wednesday, I send out a newsletter alternating between a reading list email giving some reading recommendations (mostly fiction but some non-fiction might trickle in) and a long-form essay exploring ideas and stories. And sometimes, and I apologize in advance, I may send out some personal digressions.
Subtle Digressions is about diving into rabbit holes, and just as we are about to reach the end, digressing into another one. Who knows what we might stumble upon?
Hi! I'm Yashvardhan Jain but, you can call me Yash. I'm an engineer and writer living in the United States. In this phase of my life, I am learning as much as I can about the craft of writing and the writing life. In a world filled with distractions and perpetual noise, I'm trying to find my true self.
The title of this newsletter is inspired by Mason Currey's brilliant newsletter Subtle Maneuvers and Malcolm Gladwell's oft-spoken remark "but I digress" on his amazing podcast Revisionist History. As you can tell, I am a fan of both.
